Tara Lewis Photography LLC offers a unique experience while capturing life memories. My goal is to capture timeless moments and to offer you photographs that make time stand still. I want to capture the natural beauty while embracing the joy that you currently have in your life. I aim to capture how that moment in time made you feel. Whether it's your maternity photos and you look back and think how badly her little feet hurt your ribs or if it's newborn photos and you look back and think how sweet the top of their tiny head smelled. Capturing feelings and memories is what your photographs are all about.

Clothing:

When choosing your clothing aim for lighter colors unless you are doing a theme. Try to coordinate the colors with the people in your pictures instead of being uniform and matching. Stick with the same color palate and try to compliment the setting where you are photographing. Stay away from clothing with wording or lots of busy designs and ladies, remember to put the hair tie in your pocket.

Weather:

Dayton, Ohio has unpredicatable weather. I've lived here my entire life and continue to be surprised by the weather conditions. Because of this, I am flexible with rescheduling due to weather conditions. At the end of fall, availability is limited so book fast with a reschedule date because of weather!

Copy Rights:

When booking, you receive full copy rights to your edited photographs. If you purchase or get a deal or discount on unedited photos, those are only for personal use and printing. I ask that those unedited photos are not displayed online. If you would like for me to edit an additional photo the pricing is $7.00 a picture. Check my Deals page for promotions of this kind!

Viewing:

Your photos will be displayed in an online gallery and emailed to your provided email within 14 days of your session. Check my facebook page for teaser photos!

Newborn Picture Tips:

  • Keep an eye on the baby’s (and Mom’s) new schedule. I need to arrive when the baby is the sleepiest.
  • Have the room with the most available natural light clean and cleared. In front of a window or sliding doors works the best.
  • Keep dogs and animals in another room. We don’t want to wake the baby.
  • Have that room warmed up. Turn up the temperature so it is nice and warm in the house. I would do this a few hours prior to my arrival. A cold room makes for an alert, clamy baby. I will bring a heater to make it extra warm.
  • Please have music picked out and turned on in the room. The more noise the better so baby is used to us chatting and rattling around during the photo shoot.
  • Try to feed baby (if schedule allows) 30 minutes or so prior to my arrival.
  • Baby should be only in a diaper when I arrive. The less we have to “play” with baby the better.
  • Have all items that you are interested in using in the shoot out and ready for me to sort through:  baskets, blankets, hats, headbands, etc.
  • Make sure the nursery (or other room) is nice and tidy, in case we do photos of baby there. Look for cords and try to hide/unplug them.
  • Make sure you’re ready. Wear colors that compliment your setting.  My advice is to wear soft light colors. Stay away from dresses unless they are maxi. In house newborn portraits look best when Mom and Dad (and siblings) are casual. We want to capture these moments as they are (with just a little bit of spice).
  • Let’s face it. Mom, you’re going to be tired and probably hurting during the time of the shoot. They take time and require some bending over and movement. If Dad, Aunt, Grandma, Friend etc. is available, invite them. Due to spacing, in my home only 2 adults are able to be in the room =)
  • Babies are very messy! Have wipes, burp clothes, and towels ready to go. Chances are someone will get peed on!
  • Do you have a teddy bear or object that was yours as a child that you’re passing to your baby? Be ready to assistant in capturing the most memorable time of your life. I like to photograph you and your baby with the things that mean the most to you.
  • Your baby may get fussy and alert but baby isn’t used to be away from Mom AND being moved AND posed. Don’t worry. They will get used to it with a little bit of time and LOVE. We do limited posing so we can capture baby in its natural posing and environment. I want you to remember the way they made you feel during the first moments of their life by looking back at their pictures. It’s amazing how a photograph can capture all the senses. When looking back at the pictures you’ll find yourself saying, “Oh, do you remember the way her little head smelled?” “I miss the way she used to scrunch her forehead” “I loved the way he used to tuck his head in my elbow.”
